Rookies of the Year: Longoria and Soto

Since when did they give out 2 Rookie of the Year awards? This is stupid. It diminishes the award entirely. Evan Longoria and Geovany Soto should refuse the rewards and tell the MLB to make up their minds on who is truly the Rookie of the Year. They don't give out 2 best actor nominations at the Oscars, why should they give out 2 Rookie of the Year award nominations? I mean seriously what a stupid concept, I would like to meet the jackass who came up with this one. If you want publicity, make the award more scarce so that it is more coveted. Do not give out 2 awards with the same title!

Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria and Chicago Cubs catcher Geovany Soto won the Rookie of the Year awards for 2008, Major League Baseball said on Monday.

Longoria, who played a key role in Tampa's run to the World Series where they eventually lost to the Philadelphia Phillies, claimed the American League award unanimously in the traditional vote of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Soto, born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, took the prize in the National League -- reward for a season when was outstanding in the vital defensive role while also producing 23 home runs and 86 RBIs.

Longoria is the first Tampa player to win the award.
